The German Network for Forced Migration Studies will hold an online meeting as part of the activities of the Active Refugee Admission Network (ARAN) on 5 December 2024, from 15 to 16:30 CET.
The speakers for the meeting will be:
- Prof. Marjoleine Zieck (University of Amsterdam), presenting her book Resettlement as Protection: Integrating Resettlement of Refugees in International Refugee Law (a flyer offering a book discount is available).
- Dr. Chiara Berneri (King’s College London), discussing Private Sponsorship of Refugees in Europe.
The Active Refugee Admission Network, which collaborates with the CoSME Project (Community Sponsorship for Migrants in Europe), explores policies and programmes that facilitate the safe and organised entry of refugees into host countries. Under the term Active Refugee Admission Policies (ARAP), the network examines approaches such as resettlement, humanitarian admissions, and pathways through education, employment, or family reunification. While countries like the U.S., Canada, and Australia have developed robust frameworks, European ARAPs are shaped by distinct geopolitical dynamics and evolving challenges. This network fosters collaboration between scholars and practitioners to advance understanding and improve these policies.
