On 5 April 2024, the University of Florence will host MEDEL’s half-day conference on the crisis of democracies and the rule of law in Europe. Conceived as a “preview” of the Rome conference, the event will be comprised of two sessions.

One will focus on the main criticalities that emerged in recent years with reference to constitutional democracy and Rule of Law, at both the national and the supranational level in Europe; the other will highlight those mechanisms and experiences that can be enhanced to consolidate constitutional democracy and the rule of law in Europe.

In both sessions, aspects relating to the role of the judiciary, representative democracy and sanctioning mechanisms (e.g., conditionality mechanisms) will be taken into consideration.
